WASHINGTON CO FARMERS AND MERCHANTS FAIR - JUNE 14TH - 20TH 2026

SMEDLEY OPEN HORSE SHOW - JUNE 28TH
The annual Smedley Scholarship Fund Open Horse show will take place on June 28th at 11:00am the Salem Fairgrounds. The scholarship fund was established to honor the memory of Corky Smedley by providing scholarships to Washington Co. youth who want to develop their equine skills or careers. LIVE MUSICAL PERFORMANCES AT THE JOHN HAY CENTER AMPHITHEATRE
Enjoy live music at the new amphitheatre on the grounds of the John Hay Center. These family friendly concerts are scheduled for the first Friday of each month during warmer months. Local musicians take the stage with covers and original music beginning at 8:00pm. Contact the John Hay Center to become an event sponsor. No tickets needed but donations accepted.

RACING ACTION AT THE SALEM SPEEDWAY
Exciting new changes are underway at the Speedway for the 2026 season! For over 80 years the Salem Speedway has enjoyed the recognition of being one of the most unique and renowned racetracks in America. Salem is a track steeped in history with many of the giants in auto racing having competed on the treacherous “hills” at some point in their careers. Situated in the scenic hills of southern Indiana, the Salem Speedway roars to life with upwards of 15-20 “Special Events” per year.

The Juice Box Heroes playing a free concert is something you don't want to miss! They take their already energy packed performance and take it to the next level. With big lighting and even bigger sound, experience Juice Box Heroes like you never have before. The free concert is a part of the 4th of July celebration managed by the Pekin Community Betterment Organization, INC is a non-profit organization that is 100% operated by volunteers and fully funded by sponsors, donors, and grants.

MONON SOUTH TRAIL NOW OPEN
The Monon South Trail is a 57-mile walking and cycling trail between Mitchell and the Clark/Floyd County border that connects eight local communities in the Lawrence, Orange, Washington, and Clark Counties uplands region of southern Indiana. The greenway trail offers dramatic vistas of the Indiana farmland and linkages to several regional natural destinations, including nearby state parks and recreation facilities.

BIKE NIGHTS ON THE SALEM SQUARE

CRUISE'N ON THE SALEM SQUARE EVENTS
Visit the Salem Square on the 2nd Friday of the month during the warmer months for a walk around the square. Enjoy the classic cars, pickup trucks, hot rods, and muscle cars as they park around the courthouse. Exhibitors from across Southern Indiana will be glad to share the details of their wonderful automobiles with you. Cars will begin to line up at 5:00pm.

The Washington County Farmers Market has locally grown and produced veggies, honey, maple syrup, sorghum, farm-raised beef, pork & lamb, home-baked goods, baking & spice mixes, farm fresh cut flower arrangements, local art & more! The Washington County Farmers Market will open on Saturdays in the parking lot of the Washington County Justice Center located at 801 S. Jackson St in Salem, Indiana. When produce is more plentiful, the market will open on Tuesdays from 4:00PM - 6:00PM.

The Festival includes a parade, fireworks, Cornhole Tournament, Royalty contests, concerts and much more. Register for the annual 5K Run/Walk at Historic Beck's Mill. The run/walk begins at 9:00am Runners will receive breakfast by Shady Patch as part of their entry fee. The Lyon Parlor Soda fountain has been in the Salem Apothecary since their grand opening in November of 1985. The soda fountain itself is from the Renaker Dime Store in Corydon, IN, the set of 8 stools from another old drug store in Madison, IN and the footstep was built by our Pharmacist Rebecca’s husband Phil. The circa 1916 soda fountain unit took five guys to remove it from its original location and get it into place by the front window of the Salem Apothecary! What child or adult wouldn’t want to sit on those stools and be able to spin?
