The Humane Society of Washington County, Indiana is excited to host the Fast and Furriest 5K Walk/Run on Saturday, October 10, 2026 at the Lake Salinda Veterans Trail and Eagles Trace Trail in Salem.

Mark your calendars! The Humane Society of Washington County's Fast & Furriest 5K is returning this fall, and we hope you'll join us for one of our favorite events of the year.

Whether you're a seasoned runner, an occasional walker, or simply looking for a fun way to support animals in our community, the Fast & Furriest 5K has something for everyone. Bring your family, invite your friends, and don't forget your well-behaved four-legged walking companion if you'd like!

Race Begins: 1:00 p.m.

Every registration helps provide food, medical care, spay and neuter assistance, and other lifesaving programs for animals throughout Washington County. Your participation directly supports the Humane Society's mission to protect animals from abuse and neglect, reduce pet overpopulation through education and active spay/neuter programs, and promote responsible pet ownership.

This event isn't just about crossing the finish line—it's about making a difference. Every mile completed represents hope for homeless, neglected, and abandoned animals who rely on the compassion of our community.

Participants of all ages and fitness levels are welcome. Whether you run for a personal best, stroll with your family, or cheer from the sidelines, you'll be helping create a brighter future for local animals.

Volunteers Needed

Not a runner? We'd love to have your help! Volunteers are needed before, during, and after the race to assist with registration, course support, water stations, setup, cleanup, and cheering on participants. Community service hours are available for students and youth organizations.

Registration is $30 per participant, and early registration is encouraged.

Invite your neighbors, coworkers, church groups, Scout units, civic organizations, and fellow animal lovers to participate. The more people who join us, the more animals we can help.
